Seabound feat. Reagan Jones - Exclusive Download

An exclusive download to commemorate the recently completed Seabound/Iris Alliance Tour is now available for a limited time. On select nights, Reagan and Frank performed "Watching Over You" together as an encore to the Seabound set. This duet was so well received that both bands and labels decided to record it and offer it as a free "thank you" to the fans. This recording was made at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, CA on 29 March 2008.

Pirate Bay upload a hoax; "extensive research not always an option" for Internet media

Some interesting news reached us at the offices of Dependent on Monday. According to the online magazine Torrentfreaks.com, Dependent Records founder Stefan Herwig had decided to make the entire Dependent back catalogue available for free via the controversial Torrent tracker The Pirate Bay. Despite the fact that this was an obvious hoax - Herwig has long been a vocal opponent of file sharing - dozens of Internet magazines repeated the story, sometimes including the link to the torrent itself.

The reaction of Torrentfreak.com founder and correspondant "Ernesto" was to note that since he has a full-time job, "doing extensive research is not always an option". He had apparently read news of the label's closing on the Dependent web site and taken the Pirate Bay story at face value; the facts that the person pretending to be Stefan Herwig misspelled the name of the label in the original announcement, and that the official label website made no mention of this unusual offer, failed to raise any red flags with either Torrentfreak.com nor any of the other Internet sites which reprinted the story verbatim. The only online source which first attempted to check the veracity of the announcement with Dependent was online music magazine Side-Line.

As evidence for its own credibility, Torrentfreak.com quotes the Guardian UK as calling the site "more reliable than the BBC".

Seabound - Live Album and US Tour

This April, Seabound will release their first live album "Come Forward - Live In Berlin" to audiences in both the USA and Europe. "Playing live has become an essential part of the Seabound experience," says singer Frank Spinath. "This concert is full of intimate moments and strong feelings. Coming forward has never been so personal." Just prior to the album release, the band will embark on a 3 week US tour with Iris. The "Alliance Tour 2008" brings Seabound and Iris to New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Seattle and beyond. The tour has been booked and managed by former Dependent Records head Stefan Herwig. With the recent closing of Dependent's doors, Come Forward will see worldwide release on Metropolis Records. Stay tuned for a specific release date.

"I've been an Iris fan for years," adds Frank. "Touring the US together with these great guys now is a personal dream come true for me. It's going to be a real alliance - and a lot of fun!"

mind.in.a.box DJ Single DAC#1!

After the smashing success of their last album "Crossroads" which took both critics and listeners by storm, the Austrian duo mind.in.a.box have set their sights squarely on the dancefloor. The final Dependent Records label release will be an extremely limited club single "What Used To Be" from mind.in.a.box. One of the best-loved tracks from "Crossroads", "What Used To Be" has already been released to DJs, and they have already voted it into the top slot of the German Alternative Charts!

The remaining copies of the single will be availible exclusively from MusicNonStop starting on 14.12.2007.

Dismantled album and free download

Finally available - the new album "When I'm Dead" from Dismantled, one of the few truly original and thoughtful electro-industrial bands in existence. American Gary Zon has slowly but surely built a devoted fanbase as he has led his project away from the "harder - faster - louder" mantra of his contemporaries. On his new record, Zon deals with his ostracism from a hip, shallow music scene and its inevitable decay. At the end waits death, not the dramatic, romatic, epic Gothic-death, but simple everyday death, vanishing beneath a shroud with a band logo hanging from the toe...

You can download the full-length track "Start Digging" here.

Noise Terror 2 compilation - Now Available

"Noise Terror 2: World Wide Electronics", compiled by Johan Van Roy. This new compilation album by Noise Terror Productions set to top its predecessor with an exclusive track by club darlings Straftanz, the first sign of life from Suicide Commando side project Kombat Unit, the first new Suicide Commando track of the year, an exclusive Grendel remix, and a new track from Polish Controlled Collapse. Just as interesting is the international focus of the compilation, which features not only European acts but also bands from Africa and South America. "Noise Terror 2" is the best way to gain an overview of the latest EBM acts.

Heads up to collectors...

Collectors are used to seeing Dependent artists on club hit compilations, but sometimes tracks show up in less expected places...like the following.

Schattenreich Audiobooks

The two latest installments in the German-language Schattenreich mystery series include musical accompaniment from several Dependent artists:

Schattenreich 5: "Im Grab des Ketzers" [Audiobook CD] includes Seabound - "The Promise" the track "Clock Is Ticking Fast" from Ivory Frequency.

Schattenreich 6: "Echnatons Vermächtnis" [Audiobook CD] includes the rare track "Second Death" from Suicide Commando.
